A Way of Living
Developed in India, Ayurveda is known to be one the world’s most sophisticated and powerful mind-body health systems that dates back thousands of years. More than a mere system of treating illness, Ayurveda is a science (Ayur = life, Veda =- science or knowledge), or in simplified terms, it is ‘a sensible way of living’.
Ayurveda embraces the specific meaning that life is the combination of body, mind, soul and sense organs (eyes, ears, nose, tongue, skin). It focuses on how unbalanced states of living can be restored and corrected so that a healthy balance can be maintained. It teaches what is good and bad for the body and mind and gives methods of improving life span or improving the quality of life.
The aim of Ayurveda can be categorized into two categories:
- Relief of the suffering people
- Preservation of health of healthy people
According to the ancient system of Ayurveda, the mind and body are inextricably connected and therefore nothing has more power to heal and transform the body than the mind. Knowing this, you can have a personalized approach to health that allows you to make optimal choices about diet, exercise, supplements and other aspects of your lifestyle.
Eating a colorful, flavorful diet, living in tune with nature, getting plenty of rest and practicing mindfulness and meditation are just a few of the ways we can begin balancing our mind and bodies so we can improve our own wellness.
