What Does “Clean” Smell Like To You?

I tend to believe people think “clean” clothes smells like laundry detergent or fabric softener and I remember when those smelled clean and fresh to me too. For several years now I have cut out all chemicals from my life so when I smell standard grocery store laundry soap or fabric softer my head pounds and I actually get nauseated.

After all, it smells like horrible, strong chemicals to me!

On the other hand,when I wash my laundry with soap nuts, they come out smelling like … nothing. Yep, that’s what I said; Nothing – and I LOVE that smell! To me, smelling like nothing is such a fresh feeling.

I know there are no chemicals all over my clothes and that is a comforting feeling!

I buy my soap nuts by the 5 pound bag and grind up a couple cups at a time in my Vitamix. I toss a scoop of the powder in my laundry (and because it’s soap nuts you don’t need fabric softener) and my laundry comes out clean, smelling like a whole lotta nothing! And you’d think living in Colorado I’d need fabric softener but these little nuts do the trick and I don’t have static to deal with. You can also put a few drops of your favorite essential oil in your wash if you simply have to have some kind of scent 😉

Once you go chemical free, you’ll never go back!

*** One thing I have to mention is that dogs seem to like the scent and/or flavor of the soap nuts powder. My dog opened the top of my container and ate some of it and got sick so please BEWARE around dogs and other animals! ***
